Meet your instructor (a.k.a Captain Sou'Wester)
Chief
Instructor and Owner/Operator of Sou'wester Adventures is Eric Grant.
A sailing
enthusiast for many years, and a graduate of the CYA "Learn to
Cruise Program" he knows what it's like being a student! His emphasis
is on providing an environment that's safe, interesting, and fun for
his students.
Born in
Toronto, Eric moved to Nova Scotia in 1974 and currently resides in
Western Shore (between Chester and Mahone Bay).
Starting
with white sail levels in the mid-eighties ,and a series of boats from
4.8 meter daysailor to 17, 24, 28 and now 33 foot cruising boats he continued
to expand his cruising horizons.
Extensive coastal and offshore cruising of the Maritime provinces, New England, Inter-coastal Waterway, combined with blue water passages to Bermuda and the Caribbean have provided extensive experience, and added to his conviction that the skills and training acquired from CYA training are essential.
When the
opportunity came to pursue a new career, Eric decided to become certified
as a CYA instructor, open this school, and combine his love of sailing
with the opportunity to teach others to do so.
He's looking
forward to sailing with you, and showing you the beauty of Mahone Bay
,and Nova Scotia's "South Shore" which he thinks can only
be seen properly from the deck of a cruising sailboat!
